Amarillo—An Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) workshop for clergy and lay leaders continues Saturday morning at 9:00 in the Conference Center at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 4512 NE 24th Ave.
“This foundational workshop invites clergy and parish ministers to explore the newly translated Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) and its vital role in parish life,” said Kerry Acker, Director of Religious Education (DRE) at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. “Participants will gain a clear understanding of the four stages of initiation, the associated rites and the pastoral principles that should guide all ministries. Through interactive ‘fishbowl’ sessions, attendees will also engage in practical demonstrations, exploring both the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of effective initiation ministry. This is ideal for anyone involved in parish leadership. This workshop aims to rekindle the catechumenal spirit at the heart of the Church’s mission.”
The workshop resumes June 21 with the final day of the workshop focusing on What Does This OCIA PROCESS Look Like?
The workshop on June 21 will be offered in both English and Spanish.
“While it is important to understand the vision of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), it is also necessary to spend time reviewing the practical ‘how-to’ aspects of this ministry,” said Acker. “In this workshop, initiation ministry coordinators and teams will experience a series of ‘fishbowl’ sessions that model good practice. We will take the time to examine the how/why of what we do.”
The OCIA Workshop is $10.00 per person per session (a total of $20.00) on June 21. Scholarships will be available for parishes and individuals as needed. Lunch is provided for all who register online at amarillodiocese.org/ocia. For additional information, please contact Acker at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 806-358-2461.
